The (not so) Secret Lives of Critters

Critters

Curious about what’s living in Grandpa’s Pasture Garden? One of the joys of gardening is discovering that the garden has become a habitat for delightful critters like this frog I found out in Grandpa’s Pasture just yesterday (9/5/21). Some of the lengths of irrigation pipe need new gaskets. Since I haven’t gotten to that yet, several portions of the field puddle during the weeks we have water, and the frogs love it. I’d had no…

About Me

The year after I graduated from college with a math degree and a plan to teach high school math, neither of my interviews resulted in a full-time job. After substitute teaching for a quarter and being mistaken for a student even by the middle schoolers, I went back to college and took classes to enable me to add a couple of additional certifications. One of the areas I took extra courses in was biology, and my favorite two courses were ornithology and systematic botany.

Even today I remember Dr Nestler and our class’ weekend trip to Malheur from College Place, Washington. I never would have been so thrilled about birds if it hadn’t been for him. Sadly, I do not recall the name of my botany professor, but I loved the class, the field work, and even the soggy specimen-collection camping trip to Wind River that ended two days early after everyone’s gear ended up soaked. I bet those great learning experiences are part of the reason I’m fascinated by garden critters. (And maybe this year’s jungle gardens back at home are such a great critter habitat that I’m seeing things I’ve never seen before!)

Since this website is in its infancy, you won’t find me on these other platforms, yet. I’ll let you know once Grandpa’s Pasture Garden has a presence — and then we can hang out there!
